Koyorad welcomes Doc B Racing

Koyorad would like to welcome Doc B Racing and their 1970 Datsun 240Z.  Doc B Racing will be running Koyorad’s R022352 all aluminum radiator this season.

Check them out on the following dates and locations:

June 9-12 Watkins Glen Historic 200

June 23-26 Mid-Ohio Vintage Grand Prix

September 8-11 US Vintage Grand Prix

They will also be attending car shows as the race schedule allows. At this time, Doc B Racing has been asked to show this car at the All Import Car Show weekend with the centerpiece of the weekend being the 4th Annual Jonathan Krenzer Memorial All Import Car Show on Saturday July 9.

The main significance of this race car is its serial number HLS30-00008. This particular car was one of the three original show cars that Nissan/Datsun brought to America in late 1969 to debut the 240Z at various auto shows in NYC, Los Angeles, and Detroit.  This car was the one given to Road and Track magazine to test the 240Z for the first time and was on their cover January of 1970.  Once the car completed it’s duty as a show car it was sold off and made into a race car that competed in SCCA from 1971 to 1974. It was then converted into a GTU car for competition in IMSA. Although other Z’s had competed in the 24 hours of Daytona this car was the first to actually complete all 24 hours! It continued to compete in IMSA for several seasons with it’s last professional race the 1990 24 hours of Daytona making a 20 year career.

The 2011 US Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen (September 8-11) will feature race cars from Datsun and Nissan. Doc B Racing is working with Nissan to organize a special display/event for this race weekend especially since this car is one of the last remaining original show cars and will actually race, not just be a show car! Nissan is also working with them on the rebuild of the car to make it fresh for this season.
